Steve and I had been married five years and he became ill. I was in graduate school and working full time, he was sick and off work without pay for almost three months. Still young kids trying to build a firm foundation, the financial burden and emotional stress during that time was overwhelming. We never asked for financial help from anyone and never would have--I even began looking for a part-time second job. But we didn't need to ask. Our church family saw the need. Love offerings began coming in directed to us. So humbling. Friends and church members dropped by and put cash in our hands. Cards and phone calls provided encouragement. Prayers with staff--even over the phone--were such a blessing. The situation that was overwhelming became a blessing that was overwhelming, undeserving, and nothing short of divine providence. Love in action.
